The first major step in Ontario’s Graduated Licensing System (GLS) is obtaining a G1 licence. Your G1 licence will let you practise driving under supervision. To qualify for a G1 licence in Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old; provide documentation of your identity, date of birth, and Ontario residency; pay the Class G1 licence package fee; pass a vision test; and pass the official G1 knowledge test on driving theory.
The G1 knowledge test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions in two sections: 20 questions on road signs and 20 questions on rules of the road. You can take the test at any DriveTest centre (no appointment required) or the ServiceOntario Bay and College in Toronto (by appointment only). You must also provide proof of your identity and residence in Ontario and pay the appropriate fee. The test is available in 31 languages as of February 2025. To pass the test, you must correctly answer 80 percent of the questions in each section. If you miss more than four questions in either section, you fail the test and will have to pay a retest fee to try the G1 test again. However, if you retake the test within a year, you’ll only have to retake the sections that you failed. To help you study for the G1 test, we have many practice tests that you should try. Practicing with them will help you learn and memorize the correct answers and the reasons for each. Each of our practice tests can cover a different set of topics. Therefore, before you start taking these practice tests, it’s important to get a rough idea of what topics you already know reasonably well. This G1 Diagnostic Test consists of the 15 practice questions that our users miss most often. These questions will evaluate your understanding of various topics: road signs, licensing rules, parking rules, passing stopped emergency vehicles, and penalties for common traffic offences. This test will help you quickly identify gaps in your knowledge of driving, which will be especially useful if you’re just starting to prepare for your G1 knowledge exam. Suppose your understanding of a particular topic needs some improvement. In that case, you can pay more attention to those practice questions in practice tests that cover that topic. Each of our practice tests uses realistic questions straight from the source: the Official Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Driver’s Handbook. All our materials are based on the same topics as the official G1 exam.Your test results are ready
